Mutual aid is about community support. We build mutual aid networks because we know that we’re are stronger, healthier, and happier as individuals when everyone is doing well. Through mutual aid, we pool resources and provide support, with no expectation of direct repayment - but in the assurance that the community will be there for us when we need it.
Our StopGap’s mutual aid system does include financial assistance, but we know that many other forms of support are also meaningful and needed. In this time of upheaval, we encourage those who can assist others through career coaching, application review, copyediting, and the like to let us know how they’re able to help (below).
If you could use a listening ear, a watchful eye, or a wise sage, get in touch (below).
(Many people are completing both forms, able to offer some things and in need of others - that is precisely the point, and we love it! That being said, do not feel guilty and do not hesitate if you’re ‘only’ able to make requests right now: You matter, you are welcome here, and you are not a burden. We are eager to help.)
Types of non-financial mutual aid we are coordinating:
CV/resume reviews
Cover letter brainstorming
Funding proposal copyediting
Career coaching conversations
Informal mentorship exchanges
Translation
Personal branding ideas
Technical assistance for LinkedIn profiles
Interview practice sessions
Childcare during job interviews
